NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN’S FOOTBALL ELECTS ANDREA JOHNSON AS PRESIDENT

19th December, 2017, Georgetown: The Guyana National Association For Women’s Football (NAFW), a member of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), held their election on Saturday, 16th December where Ms. Andrea Johnson has been elected president.

Johnson, a former Secretary of the said association, replaced Ms. Charmine Wade who did not seek reelection in the vote, which was held at the GFF’s Boardroom.

Following the NAFW election, Johnson said among her priority areas is the development of women’s football in the hinterland: “I’m enthusiastic about the newly-elected Executive in terms of working with the Federation for the betterment and development of women’s football in Guyana. The areas that we will be looking at are the outlying areas of Guyana – Regions 1, 7, 8 and 9 – because we feel that for too long those areas have been exempted from major football development.” The newly-elected president added, “we know those areas have very talented persons when it comes to sport and women’s football, in particular, so we will seek to maximize this”

Other elected members of the executive with a two-year mandate include First Vice President, Ms. Magazene Stewart; Second Vice President, Ms. Ayla Kenyon; Secretary, Ms. Rowena Williams; Treasurer, Ms. Denneze Lovell; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Ms. Samantha Johnson and Mr. Lawrence Griffith, who is an Ordinary Member. Other positions to be voted on are Assistant Secretary and two additional Ordinary Members, nominated members who were unavoidably absent.  These will be voted on at a later date as allowed in the NAWF’s Constitution.

The NAFW’s primary mandate is to develop women’s football in Guyana. To date, they have executed projects including the ‘Women’s Revival Football Tournament’ and partnered with the GFF to execute the Women’s Development League and CONCACAF Women’s Football Day.
