GFF SUPER 16 YEAREND CLASSIC FINALS AND THIRD-PLACE PLAYOFF FOR JANUARY 1, 2018 – Surprise International Artist For Grand Finale

– Surprise International Artist For Grand Finale

30th December, 2017, Georgetown: With the finals and third-place playoff of the GFF Super 16 Classic set for January 1, 2018, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) will have a surprise Jamaican artist as part of the post-match entertainment package and not Popcaan as initially announced.

This change was due to budgetary constraints of the GFF to honour, in a timely manner, the payment requested by the proposed artist. However, the GFF has secured an alternate world-renowned artist who has committed to perform at the grand finale.

The promotion or identification of this new artist is embargoed due to his contractual obligations until January 1, 2018. Wayne Forde, President of the GFF said it’s unfortunate that Popcaan is unable to be present but the new artist will provide top quality entertainment as the GFF pulls the curtains down on the first yearend tournament held: “This is the first year for the GFF Super 16 Classic with each game exceeding expectations. Grove Hi-Tech FC seems to be the proverbial dark-horse. We are disappointed that it was not possible to secure the additional funding for the January 1 finals show. We now have 10 months to bring off a spectacular 2018 event.”

The GFF had engaged Top Brandz Distributors, under the Corona Beer brand, as a partner to promote the entertainment for the grand finale but following the funding challenge of the initial proposed artist and GFF opting for an alternate, the company chose to withdraw its support.

The GFF is however optimistic that the partnership with Top Brandz Distributors will bear fruit in the new year since the opportunities are present in football to have a mutually beneficial relationship.

The tournament, which will now be called the “GFF Super 16 Classic” has a first prize of two million dollars, the second prize is one million dollars, third-place prize is five hundred thousand dollars and the fourth-placed team will take away two hundred and fifty thousand dollars together with football equipment including balls and cones.

The third-place and finals are billed for the National Track and Field Stadium, Leonora. The matches are scheduled for 18:00hrs and 21:00hrs with the show to follow immediately after the finals.
