GFF OFFERS TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES TO HINTERLAND FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

1st August, 2017; Georgetown: In support of hinterland football development, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) participated in the opening ceremony of the St. Romain 10th Annual Memorial Games held in Port Kaituma, North West District, Region 1.

The GFF was represented by Council Member, Dion Innis, at the games’ opening on Sunday, 30th July at the Fitzburg Community Center Sports Ground.

In brief remarks, Inniss expressed how pleased the GFF is to support the tournament, “The Federation is very pleased to be associated with this year’s event as it provides a wonderful opportunity for communities throughout the Region to engage in healthy rivalry.” He made mention of the Federation’s Developmental thrust and urged the Region to seize the opportunities available to remain competitive with the other regions: “At the moment you are lagging behind but we are here to reverse that. The performance of the Hosororo team in the Digicel Secondary School Football Championship demonstrates that the potential is there, organization and structure are needed.”

The Council member offered his congratulations to the organisers and best wishes to the participating teams.

The GFF provided both physical and technical resources for the tournament consisting balls, presented to tournament coordinator I Salam during the week of the 17th July, as well as three match officials who will be available during the course of the tournament.

Earlier in the day a meeting was held with participating teams and a Steering Committee was chosen to help organise them into clubs in the sub-region and be the point of contact with the GFF.

The tournament has eight  teams from various locations in the Region 1 including Matthews Ridge, Mabaruma, Maruka, Port Kaituma, Hosororo, Sebai, 5 Star and Arakaka will and will conclude today, 1st August.
