Acting President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Issa Hayatou, in a letter to President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Wayne Forde, extended congratulations to Slingerz Football Club on their STAG Elite League (Genesis) title, won on Sunday last at the Leonora Stadium.
Slingerz FC defeated rivals Alpha United 3 – 2, thanks to a double from their Dominican striker Julian Wade, and a match-winning header from Devon Millington. The win saw the Javed Ali owned club pocketing $4M, while Alpha United had to settle for $2M.
“It gives me great pleasure to send my heartfelt congratulations to Slingerz FC and their indomitable team on this great achievement” Hayatou said.
According to the 69 year-old Cameroonian, “this title is the result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the entire technical and medical staff and the fans.
Hayatou thanked Slingerz FC and the GFF for “helping to spread the positive message of football”
