The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) today secured a major partner in Courts Guyana Inc for the upcoming inaugural season of its Stag Elite League, set to be launched on Saturday.

The league, which will feature the top eight footballing clubs in the country, (Alpha United, Slingerz FC, Pele, Fruta Conquerors, Buxton United, Monedderlust, Guyana Defence Force, and Georgetown Football Club), will run for eight months.

Chairman of the GFF Normalisation Committee Clinton Urling, during the handing over today said that the sponsorship from Courts “will ensure that we have a successful and sustainable football league. It’s our premier football event of the Guyana Football Federation.”

Urling further added “with this partnership, we will ensure that our clubs in the tournament, work alongside community based centres and groups to provide social work. We will do that in collaboration with courts, if they are already working on some projects or we will generate some of our own projects.”

Courts Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings indicated the company’s willingness to support the venture, noting that they have sponsored the pee-wee tournament and have now made the jump to the senior level.

“We look forward to the clubs coming out and assisting their communities by being responsible, by being socially responsible because courts is all about being socially responsible and the clubs should also be a part of this responsibility and help to build their brand.” Cummings said.

The league which is mandated by both FIFA and CONCACAF was formulated to develop football at the club level and will kick off on Friday September 18 at the Leonora Track & Field Facility.
