COUVA, Trinidad & Tobago – DirecTV W Connection opened its 2015 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship campaign with a 7-1 win over Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Wednesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Hashim Arcia (32’, 42’, 82’) netted a hat-trick for the host, while strike partner Shahdon Winchester added a double (20’, 25’).  Akeem Garcia (18’) and Jerrel Britto (40’) contributed with single tallies.

Delroy Fraser (90’+4) struck for GDF’s lone goal.

The victory gave W Connection an early advantage in Group 2, which was reduced to three teams following the withdrawal of Waterhouse FC.  The Jamaican side, which participated in the 2014/15 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL), was scheduled to play Antigua & Barbuda’s SAP FC earlier in the day.

As a result, the schedule was adjusted to a single game at the same venue on each of the last two matchdays.  GDF will now face SAP on Friday, while three-time Caribbean champion Connection will face the Antiguans two days later.

The winner from each of the four groups will advance to the semifinals in May with the eventual finalists and the winner of the match for third place qualifying for the 2015/16 SCCL.
