Guyana Football Federation Activity Report (NOVEMBER)

Nov. 14 – New GFF Council elected

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) held its General Congress at the Marriott, where a new Council was elected by the 22 members.

Wayne Forde -President, Jullian Bruce Lovell -1st Vice President, Rawlston Adams – 2nd Vice President, Thandi Mc Allister – 3rd Vice President, Committee Members: Dion Inniss, Magzene Stewart, Keith Ojeer and Rayan Farias.


Nov. 18 – GFF President meeting with the GOA President

GFF President, Wayne Forde met with President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), K.A. Juman-Yassin to discuss partnership between the two entities.

At the meeting, both the GOA and the GFF discussed ways in which the two can partner on a number of areas and also Guyana’s participation at the Women’s Olympic Qualifiers.


Nov. 19 – Daniel Wilson departs for MLS Try-out with Sporting Kansas City, GFF buys airline ticket

The GFF sponsored the airline ticket for the National U23 and Alpha United Captain Daniel Wilson, to attend a try-out with Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Sporting Kansas City.

The 22-year-old Wilson will joined Slingerz FC and Dominican International Julian Wade at the three-day try-out in an attempt to become the second Guyanese (after Gregory Richardson) to play in the MLS.

Sporting Kansas City is an American professional soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri, playing its home games in Kansas City, Kansas.

The club competes in the Western Conference of the MLS and is one of the ten chartered teams having competed in the league since 1996.


Nov. 20 – Lady Jags book spot in CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier

The Lady Jags, Guyana’s senior national female football team, defeated the Reggae Girls (Jamaica) 2 – 1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago to book their spot in the 2016 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier.Ladies

Mariam El Masri and second half substitute Brittany Persaud scored to hand Guyana the historic win. It’s the second time the Guyanese women have qualified for the major CONCACAF tournament; the first being the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2010.

The Lady Jags will play Thursday February 11, 2016 at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Texas, in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier Tournament.

Guyana was placed in Group B of the tournament, along with Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala, while World Champions USA heads the ‘Group of death’ that also includes rivals Mexico, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.


Nov. 24 – Council meeting with Minister Henry

GFF Council meets with Minister of Education with responsibility for Sport Nicolette Henry.

Meeting 3The GFF President spoke of the importance of a partnership between the GFF and the Government of Guyana for the sport of football to be properly developed.
Minister Henry confirmed her Ministry’s support for several discussed initiatives and also asked for the GFF’s participation at the 2016 Independence celebration.


Nov. 26 – President, 1st Vice President met with Minister of State Joseph Harmon

The Government of Guyana announced their alliance with the STAG Elite League, following a meeting between GFF President Wayne Forde, first Vice President Brigadier (rtd) Jullian Bruce Lovell and Minister of State Joseph Harmon.

MeetingIt was during the meeting, held at the Ministry of the Presidency, that Harmon, stated that the Government of Guyana will sponsor the league’s first place prize of $4M.

According to a release from the Ministry of the Presidency, Minister Harmon pledged the government’s commitment to supporting the work of the GFF.

The GFF President outlined to the Minister, his plans to erase lawless practices from the football fraternity in Guyana and restoring the game to its former glory.

Forde lauded Minister’s Harmon intervention and added that the GFF will be working closely with the Government of Guyana to aid in the development of the game.


Nov. 28 – First Council Meeting held

GFF President Wayne Forde chaired his first Council Meeting, held in the Boardroom of the Federation’s Secretariat.


 

Nov. 29 – Slingerz FC wins STAG Elite League (Genesis)

SlingBack pageerz Football Club defeated rivals Alpha United 3 – 2 in the finals of the STAG Elite League (Genesis) to hoist the coveted title and the $4M fist place prize.

Julian Wade scored a double, while Devon Million netted the other goal for Slingerz FC while Daniel Wilson accounted for both goals for Alpha United who had to settle for $2M.
In the third place game, Pele FC won 1 – 0 over Fruta Conquerors thanks to Omallo Williams.
